Funchal Maritime Station
Location: Funchal, Portugal
Year completed: 2009
Architecture: Progitape
Client: Abrantina and Lena Construções
Scope: Aluminium composite cladding: 11,580 m2.
Development of a tailor-made solution for an aluminium composite façade system, with the specificity of making the cladding visitable at roof level, in order to make the necessary maintenance possible. Given the particular location of this building, it was also necessary to take into account that the entire cladding had to withstand the impact of waves. The solution implemented also had to guarantee the total watertightness of the entire exterior envelope, since the load-bearing structure only existed in the area of the porticoes transverse to the longitudinal direction of the building.
Architect's note: "The shape of the building and the construction process require great rigour not only in the layout but also in the construction, in all its phases, requiring particularly careful execution, in which the preparation and programming of the work will be of crucial importance."
Execution of design and shop drawings.
